We had a question sent to us about seasoning a stainless steel frying pan:

"Is there a way to season a Tools of the Trade Belquique Stainless Fry Pan? I just bought a set and am having trouble with the fry pans sticking pretty bad.
Thanks!"

Only cast iron can be seasoned. Stainless steel is non-reactive and does not absorb oil and other flavors so it cannot be seasoned.

If you are having trouble with sticking in the pan then you might try deglazing with a liquid, water or wine, even soy sauce works great.

With stainless steel you want a certain amount of sticking on the pan to develop a crust on the food, usually meat, or onions so you can build a sauce.

A great way to cleanup a pan if it has food stuck to it is to put the burner on high and use a little bit of water and a wooden spoon. Water dissolves most food solids and works great to cleanup a dirty pan.
