We have been through too many versions of aluminum and plastic that never seem to perform well for very long. These are wide enough to get a measuring spoon into and they are clear so you can see whats in them. And at 8 ounces they hold enough so that you are not constantly refilling them. Ball seems to always make great glass products. We do not intend to use these for preserving, since we were looking at them as spice containers.
