For long drinks (like gin and tonics, bloody Mary's etc...) a collins glass or a high ball glass is the perfect vessel glassto use. These glasses are tall and slim and have straight sides. The collins glass can generally hold between 8 and 14 ounces, whereas the high ball glass hold from 8 to 12 ounces. The two glasses can be used interchangeably, so just use whatever you have on hand.

If you're planning on making a drink that's served over ice, then this shape and size is ideal. The classic version of these glasses is very simple with no extra decorative details: just simple, straight sides and a slightly thicker bottom.

When it comes to serving drinks from these glasses, lemonade or ice tea is perfect if you're going for non alcoholic. Otherwise any drink that is topped with either sparkling water, tonic or ginger ale over ice is right for the collins glass or high ball glass.
