| | Al Dente means to the tooth. It's a term used to describe when cooking pasta most commonly: you want to cook the pasta al dente, in other words until it's tender but still firm, with a bit of a bite in the center. Although the term al dente is mostly used to described cooking pasta, it can also be used when cooking vegetables. For example; you might want to cook the broccoli al dente: soft but still with a bit a bite in the middle. The broccoli is then not too soft and not mushy, it has texture, but it is tender.
