A tuna melt sandwich can be so delicious if it is done right. Creamy tuna and melted cheese dripping down ontuna_melt hearty bread will make anyone hungry. So how do you make a really nice tuna melt sandwich?

Step 1:

First of all, you need to start out with a good tuna salad. Our recipe for tuna salad gets some crunch from celery, red onion and apple and contains a good amount of spices. It's tasty and flavorful and perfect for a tuna melt.

Step 2:
Next, roast your bread. Since the tuna salad is most likely a little wet, it can make the bread a slightly soggy if the bread is too soft to begin with. So toast some good bread in the toaster – we prefer a nice hearty wheat bread.tuna_melt

Step 3:
Spoon a generous amount of tuna salad on top of your toasted bread and top with slices of a good melting cheese. Here you could use cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, or Monterey Jack to mention a few. Make sure to add a generous amount of cheese.

Step 4:
Place your sandwich under the broiler – and not simply in a hot oven. You don't want to cook the tuna, you simply want to brown the cheese. This will be done in about 5 minutes, depending on how hot your broiler is and how far down in the oven your pan is located.

Serve with a nice green salad on the side or a warm bowl of soup.
