Steel cut oats are so very different from regular rolled oats. Toasted and cooked they have a nice nutty flavor and an interesting texture - not at all bland and boring like oatmeal usually is.

steel cut oatsMethod:

Roast the steel cut oats in some butter (about 1 tbsp) on medium high heat, while you heat up the water. Add a small pinch of salt. Once the water is almost boiling, pour it over the oats and lower the temperature. Cover with lid and let the oats simmer in the water for about 20-30 minutes, until the consistency is good, stirring occasionally.

Serve with cinnamon sugar and milk.
