Method

In a food processor add 2 cups cooked chickpeas, or canned.

Note: To cook chickpeas soak for 4 - 12 hours and then boil 45 minutes to an hour, or until tender.

Then add 1 teaspoon ground cumin and 1 teaspoon salt and 3 1/2 teaspoons tahini.

Note: homemade tahini recipe

Pulse in the food processor until smooth. Add additional salt or cumin if desired.

Results

We discovered that by making our own tahini and soaking our own chickpeas a serving of our hummus was $0.09 compared to $0.57 store bought.

So for a total of $1.02 we made as much hummus as a container in the store costing $6, about 10 ounces.
